In MLS, you can create two types of forms: external forms and inline forms. The difference:
External forms are not created directly in learning tasks. You first create them โoutsideโ the learning task and then link them to it. Your advantage โ : You can use a form with questions in completely different learning tasks without having to enter the questions again.
Note: Once you have assigned a task with an external form to a learner, you can only create a new version of the form.
Instead, you can create inline forms directly in your learning task. This happens when you click on โCreate formโ in the learning task.
But what if you want to use inline forms in other learning tasks in the same way as external forms?
In MLS, you can easily insert these inline forms (and external forms) using the โMerge formsโ function.
Important: When embedding an inline form, a copy of the form is always created โ the original remains unchanged.
โ Step-by-step: Integrating inline forms
1. Open an existing learning task or create a new one
You can either embed inline forms in existing learning tasks (if they have not already been assigned) or in a new learning task.
In this example, you will create a new learning task.
2. ๐ Select โMerge formsโ
In the learning task, you will find the โMerge formsโ function. This option allows you to integrate an existing inline form into your learning task as a copy. ๐จ๏ธ
3. ๐ Select form
Select the desired form from the list. As you can see, it is important to give your forms unique names. By default, these are always created under โNew Formโ.
4. ๐ Copy is being created
As soon as you insert the corresponding inline form, MLS automatically creates a copy of it. This copy is embedded in the learning task and can be customised independently of the original.
๐ก Tip: Changes to the embedded form do not affect the original, so you can safely make adjustments!
5. ๐ ๏ธ Customise form (optional)
You can edit the copied version directly in the learning task โ e.g. add answer options, change question texts or adjust points.
6. ๐พ Save & test
Save the learning task and test it yourself using the learner view to ensure that the form works as desired.
๐ค Why make a copy?
The copy protects the original form from accidental changes. This allows you to use an inline form multiple times โ e.g. in different learning tasks โ without them affecting each other. The disadvantage is that this can result in a large number of copies of almost identical forms.
