☑️ Interim assessment in learning tasks

How you can assess learning tasks while working on them

In MLS, you can already give an interim assessment for learning tasks that your learners have not yet fully completed.

This is particularly helpful if you

  • are working with quite long learning tasks or

  • would like to give your learners an initial assessment for a specific task step (e.g. for a question or an assessment sheet).

You need to distinguish between two scenarios:

  • ‘Classic’ MLS learning tasks

  • Learning tasks that include so-called locked task steps.

Interim assessment for MLS learning tasks without locked sections

As a learning guide, you can assess tasks that your learners have started at any time. The prerequisite for this is that they have completed at least one task step and are already working on the next task step.

In this case, you can go to ‘Assigned tasks’ and then to the ‘In progress’ tab.

You will find the ‘Interim assessment’ icon next to the learner.

Clicking on it will take you to the interim assessment. There you can, for example, award points or leave comments for your learner. Finally, click on ‘Complete interim assessment’.

Important: Once you have completed an interim assessment, the task step can no longer be edited by the learner. He/she can view the task step but cannot make any further changes.

How does your learner know that an interim assessment has already taken place?

As soon as you have carried out an interim assessment, this is synchronised directly with the learning task. If the trainee is currently working on the task, he or she will receive a brief notification. Any answers given up to that point will of course remain unchanged.

The learner can see the interim assessment directly in the respective task steps by the score achieved or a percentage if you have used assessment sheets. The questions are greyed out because they can no longer be changed. The answers to the questions are not displayed!

As a learning guide, you can also see which sections you have already assessed (based on the icon there) if your learner has completed further task steps.

Note: In addition to forms, you can also co-evaluate assessment sheets and protocols such as the quality assessment sheet. Your learners will see the percentage achieved and also the assessments in detail.

Interim assessment for MLS learning tasks with locked sections

As a learning guide, you can set whether learners are locked out after completing a task step and cannot continue.

There are two options for this:

  • Learners are always locked, regardless of the result achieved.

  • Learners are locked if they have not achieved a certain result (e.g. 80%).

You can recognise locked task steps by the lock symbol.

If a task step is locked or your learner has not achieved the minimum percentage, the task will end up in the ‘Locked’ tab.

Via Evaluate, you can decide whether you want to approve or reject the next task step (in the latter case, the learner must repeat the task step(s)).

In the case of ‘Release’, you can perform an interim assessment immediately afterwards. However, this is not mandatory.

Note: If you also need to assess the section before it, you can do so by calling up this task step as well.

If you have made a mistake in the interim assessment, you can also undo it.

As they continue working, learners can see which task steps have already been assessed. For forms with questions, the points are visible, and for assessment sheets, the percentages are visible.

Learners can no longer change task steps that have already been assessed, only view them. Solutions to questions are not displayed.

✔️ Give specific feedback, not just scores, and also via comments

✔️ Help identify stumbling blocks in the learning process
