🧠 AI pre-evaluation in MLS2

How it helps you as a learning mentor

Written by Carsten Rhinow

The AI pre-assessment in the MLS2 learning system helps you assess your learners’ unanswered questions more quickly, consistently and with less effort. It’s not a replacement for you as a learning facilitator – but it’s a really good assistant πŸ’‘.

Open-ended questions, such as text-based questions or file uploads, are great when you want learners to engage more deeply with the content – they simply help learners retain more information than, for example, tick-box questions. Until now, this has always been time-consuming due to the need to award marks and provide feedback – thanks to AI, these question types can now be assessed much more quickly.

βœ… What is the AI pre-assessment?

When learners answer open-ended questions, the AI system in MLS2 automatically generates an initial assessment of their answers.

For example, the AI analyses:

  • the relevance of the answer to the question asked

  • the accuracy of the content

  • the completeness of the answer

πŸšΆπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ AI Assessment – Step by Step

When you assign a learning task to a learner, the MLS system assesses whether that task can be marked entirely by AI. This depends primarily on whether you, as the learning facilitator, have made the relevant entries in the model answers (this is particularly important for text-based questions).

If this is the case, the AI pre-assessment feature is already active when the task is assigned.

Otherwise, you can simply activate it.

Tip: Make sure your open-ended questions in the task description and the solution are worded as clearly as possible. The better they are, the better the AI pre-assessment can process them.

Once the learning task has been submitted, the learner πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ can already view the AI pre-assessment.

When learners click the button, they will see it.

Important: Of course, AI can make mistakes; this is therefore indicated accordingly.

The MLS AI is even capable of pre-evaluating images accordingly.

The AI pre-assessment helps you, as a learning mentor, to evaluate learning tasks.

You’ll receive an initial suggestion for the points πŸ”’ and will also find some pre-written feedback πŸ’¬ directly in the comments. Of course, you can edit both.

Remember that AI can make mistakes too, so be sure to check the suggestions.

You can use this button to directly accept AI suggestions for points and feedback.

By default, you must approve each AI suggestion individually. However, it is also possible to accept all AI suggestions in one go. Simply speak to your account manager about this.

Of course, the AI pre-assessment also works if you are evaluating several trainees at the same time (you can find out more here).

🎯 Benefits for you as a learning mentor

βœ… 1. Less effort when dealing with lots of answers

Especially in groups, training programmes or courses with lots of learners, you can go through the answers more quickly. The AI sorts and assesses them in advance and highlights potential problem areas.

βœ… 2. Greater consistency in assessment

The AI operates according to fixed criteria. This ensures that initial assessments remain consistent – which is particularly helpful when several tutors are working on the same course.

βœ… 3. Quick overview of learning progress

You can see straight away where many learners are struggling.

Great for spontaneous revision or targeted support 🎯.

βœ… 4. More time to provide the best training for your trainees

Fewer clicks, less routine work – more time for you to engage in discussions, coaching, feedback and learning support on an equal footing ❀️.
